"Diatribe" by Holloway (High School)
The headlines of the local paper spread the unbelievable news that Timmy killed himself, 17 years old, 7 months away from graduation. (This story deals with suicide, but that's not the REAL story) Timmy had excellent grades, good attendance, he was friendly and according to many people that knew him, he was the every day high school boy. But Timmy's story isn't unique, it isn't the exception, Timmy's story is the rule when you are young and gay and male in the public school system where religion still dominates the thought process and the prejudices of school employees; principal, dean, teachers, etc., encourage children with similar thought patterns to act in ways that harm or kill other students. In this case it is not that the teacher, the minister, the police did not see what was
happening but rather that they did not care what was happening.
